General Schedule:

We have a great local host committee chaired by Kathleen Holt of Cimarron. We are deeply grateful to them for their hard work and great ideas.

PRE-DIALOGUE TOURS ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON:  If there's enough interest, you'll have several options on Friday afternoon before registration begins.  Have you ever toured a modern dairy farm, or a wind farm? Dodge City also has the award-winning Boot Hill Distillery, which was the brainchild of local farmers seeking a new market for their grain. If you've registered for Kansas Dialogue, you'll be receiving all the details.

FRIDAY EVENING AUGUST 25th:   An evening in the Wild West!
Hey cowboys and cowgirls! We'll be gathering from all corners of the state in the most famous Western town in the world! We'll start with a reception and supper at our friendly Hampton Inn, and travel to Boot Hill just in time for a gunfight!  Then we'll tuck into some ice cream sundaes and spend the evening getting acquainted at our opening session. We'll finish around 9:00 and meet back at the Hampton for "Dialogue After Hours" in our hospitality suite.
SATURDAY AUGUST 26th
The Heart of Dialogue: day sessions at the Boot Hill Conference Center
We'll breakfast at the Hampton and walk or shuttle to the adjacent conference center until 2:30 pm. There will be two general sessions with the whole group; 3 concurrent sessions (choosing from 15 topics); and lunch.

SAT MID-AFTERNOON:  Let's tour Dodge City!
Bus and trolley tours will take us on a journey through the Old West and the New: from the Santa Fe Trail, Fort Dodge and Coronado Cross to the feedlots of today and a tour of the town.  If you'd prefer to wander on foot, the Trail of Fame through Downtown Dodge is fascinating.  You'll also have another chance to tour the Boot Hill Distillery, attend an art class organized by our local hosts, or return to the Boot Hill Museum to learn more about the Old West.

SATURDAY EVENING AT THE DEPOT THEATER:  "The Human Face of Immigration"
Dodge City is an international community.  Tonight we'll taste those ethnic flavors in our food, and get a very personal look at how immigration issues are affecting our Kansas community. Our invited guests will represent a wide array of immigration experiences. We’ll be joined by Dreamers, now American citizens; refugees, persons at different stages of the process, those with stories of dangerous border crossing, those who entered as refugees, those who’ve been here a long time and relative newcomers. The stories will be shared throughout dinner and then during a panel discussion featuring presenters on the topics of “Trafficking in Kansas?” “Living with the Threat of Deportation – from Undocumented to American Citizen” and “It’s a Labor Essential to the Survival of a Rural Economy."  Get ready for a powerful evening and continue the conversation "After Hours" at the hotel hospitality suite.

SUNDAY MORNING AT THE BOOT HILL CONFERENCE CENTER:  Some high octane conversation!
Many people say this is their favorite part of the weekend. We'll have three roundtables where you can choose from 10-12 topics at a time.  These are fresh topics that you bring to Kansas Dialogue on Friday night, so they feature the latest current events, the most controversial subjects, the goofy, the esoteric, the political, the spiritual...  topics that are best suited to small group sharing.

As always, we conclude the weekend with our own fake radio show: "This I Believe"...  an inspiring collection of audio essays written and performed by several people in our group.  This live show is modeled after the NPR Radio series.

PLEASE GET THE HECK INTO DODGE AND JOIN US FOR A MEMORABLE WEEKEND GETAWAY!
IF YOU'VE NEVER BEEN BEFORE -
There are usually about 100 people at Kansas Dialogue.  Our conversations are a combination of full group discussions, concurrent sessions with 20 people to a room, and round tables of 8.

But as interesting as the formal sessions are, the real buzz happens at meals, breaks and "after hours".  Kansas Dialogue is an immersion experience, and the people who come are thirsty for good conversation and meeting new people.  We dive right in without the small talk.

If this sounds like it's for you, general details of the weekend are below.  Because Kansas Dialogue is an "off the record" conversation, the final program and participant list are shared only with the people who register.

We look forward to seeing you!

Regards,
Martha Farrell and the
Conveners of Kansas Dialogue

"GET THE HECK INTO DODGE!"
 Dodge City, Kansas    August 25 -27, 2017

Would you like to tour a dairy farm, a wind farm or a distillery?  Come early for Friday afternoon fun before registration even begins.

Our headquarters hotel is the Hampton Inn. That's where we'll connect on Friday evening for registration and supper before we vamoose to the Boot Hill Museum for an ice cream social and our evening session.

Our Saturday day sessions and lunch will be held at the Boot Hill Conference Center, which is right by the Hampton Inn. This is when we split into smaller groups and have many topics to choose from.  We develop these from the suggestions you make on your registration form, and the topics range from nitty gritty to humorous and philosophical. There's something for everyone!

Later on Saturday afternoon you can take a "Dodge City: Then and Now" bus and trolley tour, or a walking tour on the Dodge City Trail of Fame.  Our local hosts are even organizing an art class for those who are interested.  And Saturday evening promises to be very powerful as we meet a wide array of area residents who represent different immigration experiences:  "The Human Face of Immigration".

These are just a few of the highlights of the weekend.  We'll start to fill in the details when we know who's coming and what you want to talk about.
